Yesterday, we were treated to a scenic trip past Trial Island and up the coast of San Juan. Both areas are rich in wildlife as Trial Island is home to the Trial Islands Ecological Reserve and San Juan is a popular hang out for both resident and transient orcas! Spoiled with sunshine, seals and bountiful bald eagles, we had a great day out on the water! The fun will continue straight through the weekend with trips going out on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Yesterday I was lucky enough to get out from behind my desk in the Springtide office and head out on the water myself! It was a bit breezy but the sun was shining and I had great company with our fantastic skipper, Dave, and two special guests, Samantha and Colleen, who traveled all the way to Victoria from Oz! We headed West out of the harbour towards Race Rocks. Here we were lucky enough to spot several seals and sea lions basking in the sun, sitting just high enough to stay out of the reach of transient orcas who wouldn’t pass up the chance to have a tasty seal snack! All in all, it was a beautiful day and I was reminded of just how amazing the West Coast truly is! So, if you’re looking for an excuse to get out of the office and onto the water, look no further – whale watching is the perfect solution!

Springtide is kicking the weekend off with a confirmed 10:00am zodiac adventure on Saturday. With plenty of whale sightings this week, we’re hopeful our luck will continue through the weekend! On Sunday, recover from the excitement of Saturday’s whale watching and wind things down by joining us at the Victoria Harbour Day celebrations. There’s going to be lots of boat races and displays from local companies who know all the ins and outs of Victoria’s inner harbour (you can find all of the important details at savevictoriaharbour.com). The celebrations are guaranteed to be lots of fun but we’re making it just that much better by offering a Victoria Harbour Day Special! Humpback Whale sightings!

What a day! Whale watching passengers on board our zodiac vessel were treated to the sights of Humpback Whales, as the dipped and dove for their lunch. This spectacular photo was taken near Victoria, BC, by Louis Flannery. We will most likely continue to view this magnificent mammals until late October this year.
