Our Company

SpringTide Charters was established in 1986 and began operations in Victoria in 1994, initially operating as a professional SportFishing Company. Dan Kukat and his 36′ Uniflite Sportfisher ~ the “SpringTide” ~ quickly became known as a top guiding service, with an excellently outfitted vessel and consistently great “catches”. Many wonderful times were had by avid sportsmen, corporate clients, derby organizers and families wishing to have a tremendous experience together!

Whale watching became a very popular activity in the early ‘90’s. Dan, with his passion and commitment to the wildlife and environment jumped in with both feet to author guidelines in many organizations. During this time, custom built vessels were designed and the SpringTide fleet vessels grew to its current 152 passenger capacity. Now, Dan’s wife Joanne and family are actively involved in all aspects of the company’s operations.

Dan earned his Bachelor of Commerce at the University of BC and is a Chartered Accountant. Joanne, also a UBC Commerce graduate, pursued a career with both IBM and Digital Equipment Corporation. Jaclyn Kukat is in pre Med at the University of Victoria, and Carleen is entering UVic this year as a Bachelor of Commerce student. The Kukats love Victoria and particularly enjoy welcoming visitors to the city and sharing its blend of spectacular scenery and old world charm!
